【例】The once discredited mayor has been rehtrbr7itated in public esteem.

2.merge   v．（使）合并,（使）并入

【例】with respect to They all became serious when they talked with respect to the sacrificed soldiers.

【用】respect在表示“敬意，问候”的时候，常用复数形式。
【派】respectable（adj.可敬的，高尚的；体面的；相当好的）；respectful(adj.恭敬的，有礼貌的)

5.overrule   vt.否决，驳回

【例】It is difficult for the government to carry on the rebuilding which took place in the aftermath of the war.

8.temper   n.心情，脾气，性情，气质;（钢等物质的）硬度、韧度，回火度 v．回火，锻炼；使软化；调剂，缓和
【例】In summer the high daytime temperatures on the coast are tempered by cooling sea breezes.
夏天时节，凉爽的海风缓和了沿海地区白天的高温。
be in a bad temper Susan was in a bad temper because Thomas wanted to come too.
苏珊的心情很不好，因为托马斯也要一起来。
【用】词组be in a good/bad temper是“心情好，不好”的意思；get into a temper则表示“发怒”；keep/lose one's temper表示“忍住，发脾气”。
