1.splash   V．溅，泼；（指液体）飞溅；n．飞溅(声);溅污的斑点；有颜色的斑点
【例】Martin splash on me on purpose．
马丁故意溅了我一身泥。
Wish a great splash, he swam off in hasty pursuit of the fish.
他匆忙跳下水去追那条鱼,溅起一大片水花。
We hit the water with a mighty splash.
我们用力拍水，发出很大的响声。
【用】splash常见搭配有：①splash into（溅入，滴人）；②splash on/onto(往…上面溅)；打在…上。

2.concrete  adj.具体的，有形的；明确的 n.具体物；混凝土，凝结物 v．用混凝土修筑
【记】词根记忆：con+cret(产生)+e--生产出来的实物--具体的
【例】Is there any concrete suggestions?
有没有什么具体建议？
The building was made of steel and concrete.
那栋建筑是钢筋混凝土砌成的。
【用】固定搭配in the concrete，表示“具体化；实际上”。

3.utter  adj.完全的，彻底的：绝对的，无条件的“发出（声音等），说
【例】Two streets with identical names in the city are causing "utter chaos”，according to residents.
居民表示该市中两条路的名字完全相同，这给他们带来了“巨大的麻烦”。
Some government officials uttered the warnings of terrorist attacks.
一些政府官员发出了对抗恐怖袭击的预警。

4.awaken  v．叫醒，闹醒：醒来，觉醒
【例】awaken to    We must awaken to new challenges.
我们必须意识到新的挑战。

5.delicate   adj.易碎的，娇弱的；精密的，精致的：微妙的；清香的，清淡的
【记】词根记忆：de+lic(引诱)+ate--诱人的--精致的
【例】Annie remained delicate long after the fever.
那次发烧很久以后，安妮仍然很虚弱，
【用】be in delicate health常指“体弱多病”，

6.estimate  vt.估计，估计…的意义（价值），评价 n．估计，估算，评价，评估
【例】From this survey, one can estimate that fewer than one in five children have some contact with a hospital teacher-and that contact may be as little as two hours a day.
从这份调查可以估算出与医院内老师有过接触的孩子不足五分之一，就算有接触其时间也少到每天只有2小时而已。(1999)

【辨】estimate, assess, evaluate: estimate揩对物体主观的判断，可能会有失误；assess指财政、资金评估，也指对人、工作的评价；evaluate则是对抽象的能力、表现等的评价。

7.minus  prep.减去；（气温）零下 adj.负的，零下的；劣（低）于…的
【记】词根记忆：min(小)+us--变小--减去
【例】This city has a temperature of minus ten degrees centigrade in winter.

8.weld  v.焊接，熔接；使成一体
【例】The flow of heat is used to weld parts together.
热流用于把零部件焊接在一起。
