1.simplify  vt．使单纯，使简易，简化
【记】联想记忆：simpl(e)（简单）+ify（便）--使简易
【例】Yahoo announces are structuring drive in a bid to simplify its business and take on rival Google.
雅虎宣布了重组方案，力争简化商业运作流程并收购竞争对手谷歌。

2.patriot  n.爱国者，爱国主义者
【记】词根记忆：patri(父亲，引申为祖国)+ot--爱国者
【例】Disney was regarded as a great patriot because not only did his cartoons celebrate America, but, during World WarⅡhis studios made training films for American soldiers.
迪斯尼被看作一名伟大的爱国人士，不仅因为他的卡通颂扬了美国，还因为“二战”期间他的工作室为美国士兵制作了训练影片。(2005)

3.disorder   n.杂乱，混乱；骚动；失调，不适 vt.使零乱，扰乱；使失调，使不适
【记】联想记忆：dis(没有)+order(顺序)--无序--混
【例】Kayla attributed her weight loss to her mental disorder.
凯拉将体重下降归因于自己的精神失调。
The economic crisis threw the whole country into disorder.
经济危机致使全国陷入一片混乱。
【用】disorder常与介词in连用，表示“混乱，紊乱”，常见搭配为；fall into disorder(陷入混乱)；throw...into disorder(使…混乱，把…卷入动乱)。

4.confine   v．幽禁，监禁；限制，把…局限于
【记】词根记忆：con+fin(范围)+e--有范围限制--监禁
【例】No longer is the possession of information con[med to a privileged minority.
信息的所有权不再局限于享有特权的少数群体。(2000)
Kate is confined in a small room.
凯特被监禁在一间小屋里。
【用】常用搭配是be confined to，意思是“被局限于…”。
【辨】confine，limit:confine通常强调禁止或不能通过的边界，含有束缚、阻碍或抑制的意味；limit通常指对时间、空间、数量等预先作出规定，如：limit the speed of autos t0 80 miles an hour。

5.mislead   vt．把…引入歧途；使误解
【记】联想记忆：mis(坏；错误)+lead（引导）--领错路--把…引入歧途
【例】Sometimes people can be mislead by the superficies of the incidents.
有时候人们会被事物的表象误导。

6.allege  v．（在提不出证明的情况下）断言，声称
【记】词根记忆：al(表加强)+leg(说)+e--大声说--断言，声称
【例】The suspect alleges that he was at home on the night of the crime.
嫌疑犯辩称案发当晚他在家中。
【用】allege有以下三种句型结构：①allege to do sth.;②allege+n.;③allege+从句。
【派】allegedly(adv.据称，据指控)

7.disregard  n./vt.不理会，不顾，忽视
【记】联想记忆：dis(不)+regard（关心）--不关心--忽视
【例】You disregard everything that you ought to have consideration for.
你忽视了所有你应该考虑的事情。
【用】常用搭配为in disregard of，表示“不顾，无视”。

8.notify  vt．（正式）通知（某人），告知
【记】词根记忆：not(知道)+ify（使）--使…知道--通知，告知
【例】The government says that if any casualties are found, family members will be notified immediately.
政府表示，如果找到任何伤亡人员，都将立刻通知其家属。
【辨】notify, inform, apprise三者都含有“告诉，通知”的意思。notify用法比较正式，一般都是通过信件等通知；inform最常用，强调直接使某人知道情况，
如：Please inform us when to set off.；apprise是告知与听话人有关系的事情。
