1.intenm  adj.暂时的，临时的；中期的，过渡时期的
【记】词根记忆：inter(在…之间)+im--中间时期--过渡时期
【例】Jane took the job as an interim position while she looked for something better.
简接受了这份工作作为暂时职位，同时她还在寻找更好的。

2.specify  vt．具体指定；详述
【记】词根记忆：speci(种类)+ify--确定种类--指定
【例】The regulations specify that you may use a dictionary in the examination.
条例规定在该考试中可以使用字典。

3.exhale  v．呼（气），呼出
【记】词根记忆：ex(出)+hal(呼吸)+e--呼出
【例】I exhaled in relief when seeing her come back safely.
看到她平安归来，我松了口气。

4.duplicate  n./adj.完全一样（的），复制（的），副本（的） v．复写，复制；重复，使加倍
【记】词根记忆：du(二，双)+plic（重叠）+ate--二者可以重合的--完全一样的
【例】Don't worry，I have a duplicate key.
别担心，我有一把备用钥匙。
I don't mean to duplicate the mistake again.
我可不想再犯同样的错误。
in duplicate This form should be filled out in duplicate.
这个表需要一式两份地填写。    ．
【用】duplicate强调完全相同的两样东西。

5.distinguish   v．区分，辨别；看清，发现，听出；使有区别，使具有特色
【记】联想记忆：di+sting(刺)+uish--将刺挑出来--辨别
【例】It's difficult to distinguish between what’s good and what's bad sometimes.
有时候分辨好坏相当困难。
distinguish oneself:  Sophy had an opportunity to distinguish herself at last.
索菲终于有机会出名了。
【用】distinguish常跟between/from搭配，表示“区别，辨别”，而 distinguish oneself则表示“表现杰出，受人注意”，
【派】distinguishable（adj.可区分的，可分辨的）；distinguished（adj.卓越的，杰出的）

6.expel   vt．驱逐，开除；排出（气等）
【记】词根记忆：ex(出)+pel(推)--推出去--驱逐
【例】Conrad expelled the enemy from his dominions.
康拉德将敌人驱逐出自己的领地。

7.amiss  adv.错误地；不顺当地 adj.错误的，有缺陷的；不合时宜的
【记】联想记忆：a(表加强)+miss(错过)--错误的
【例】Nothing has ever gone amiss since he took charge of the company.
自他接管这家公司以来还未出过问题。

8.allow   v．允许；让…得到，同意给予；考虑到；承认，同意其为正当
【例】By 2005, half of all knowledge workers will choose“flextime, flexplace”arrangements, which allow them  to  work  at home, communicating with the office via computer networks.
到2005年，知识型员工中将有半数会选择工作时间及地点都非常灵活的安排方式，这使得他们能够在家中工作并通过电脑网络与办公室进行联系。(2003)
allow for:  The journey usually takes 3 weeks, but you should allow for delays caused by bad weather.
旅行通常需要三周，但是你应该考虑到恶劣天气所造成的延误。
【用】allow句型结构是allow sb.to do sth.，多用于被动语态。
